A 40-year-old man was killed Thursday morning when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Goose Island on the Near North Side.
He was hit about 4:20 a.m. in the 1000 block of West Division Street, prompting police to close several blocks of the roadway for more than two hours to investigate.
The vehicle, described as a 2010-13 black or dark-colored four-door Hyundai Sonata, was westbound on Division when it struck the man, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said.
He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries, at 8:12 a.m., a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said. The man was identified as Billy Taylor, of Hazel Crest, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Police were looking for the car, which has damage to its front end grille, O’Brien said.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating.
