Three south suburban men were ordered held on $350,000 bond for allegedly ordering customers and employees of a north suburban Deerfield store into a back room at gunpoint to steal merchandise.
An employee at a business in the 100 block of South Waukegan Road called 911 about 7:30 p.m. Monday to report two men entered the store, ordered all customers and employees into a back office at gunpoint and began loading a “large volume” of merchandise into a waiting van, according to a release from Deerfield Police.
Responding officers saw the men leaving the scene and followed them onto Interstate 94 toward Half Day Road, where the van struck a median as it attempted to exit, police said.
The suspects fled on foot but were eventually captured by police.
Lavell D. Hughes, 41, of the 16900 block of South Trapit in Hazel Crest; Tony K. Johnson, 20, of the 15300 block of Winchester in Harvey, and Andre L. Wadlington-Anthony, 28, of the 15300 block of Winchester in Harvey, were each charged with six counts of kidnapping and armed robbery, police said.
On Wednesday, Cook County Judge Marcia Orr ordered each man held on $350,000 bond, police said. They will be back in court April 30 in Skokie.
If convicted, the men face six to 30 years in prison for each count, police said.
