Western Springs Police have issued a warning to residents about two related incidents involving suspicious people in an SUV approaching children.
Both incidents occurred about 6:15 p.m. Saturday in the 4800 and 4900 blocks of Lawn Avenue, where police said a late-model white Chevy Suburban with an Illinois plate drove up, and a woman offered candy to two separate groups of boys ages 9 to 14.
The woman was described as white, in her 20s with dark hair and a “raspy” voice, wearing a dark shirt. There also was a white man in his 20s in the passenger seat, wearing a black baseball cap and white shirt.
Witnesses said the man appeared to be filming the youths with a smartphone, and the woman asked one of the groups of boys if they “wanted to film some video.”
Police said there was no physical contact with any of the children, and the SUV immediately left the area. Several responding police units checked the area but were unable to locate the SUV.
