Woman dies 3 days after alleged DUI crash on Lake Shore Drive

A South Shore woman died Wednesday, less than a week after she was hurt in a Lake Shore Drive traffic crash involving an allegedly drunken driver.

Verlinda Perry-Hill, 52, was driving a minivan when an SUV rear-ended her vehicle about 10:45 p.m. Sunday in the 4500 block of South Lake Shore Drive, authorities said.

The impact of the crash sent the minivan careening over a curb, police said at the time.

Perry-Hill, of the 1400 block of East 69th Street, was pronounced dead at 12:09 p.m. Wednesday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The driver of the 2000 GMC SUV, Mareo T. Nutall, 32, of the 3500 block of West Arthington, was initially charged with two counts of felony aggravated DUI, police said.

Nutall also was cited with having a blood alcohol level at or above 0.08, driving on a suspended license and failing to reduce speed, police said.

Court information was not immediately available Wednesday night.
