Teacher charged with sexual abuse of former Chicago Christian students

A Chicago man has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse of two students in 2009 while he was a music teacher at Chicago Christian High School in Palos Heights, police said Tuesday.

Kenneth Martin, 34, of the 1500 block of West 83rd Place, went by the name of Kenneth Whitney at the time of the alleged abuse, police said.

Two former Chicago Christian students told police in April 2012 that they had engaged in inappropriate relationships with Martin while they were students in 2009, police said. The relationship progressed into a sexual one, and one of the victims was 16 at the time, police said.

There was no evidence to indicate other victims were involved, police said.

School officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.

Bail for Martin was set Tuesday at $100,000, authorities said. He is next due in court April 23 at the Cook County Courthouse in Bridgeview.

Palos Heights detectives, Orland Park Police and the Chicago Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory contributed to the yearlong investigation, police said.
