A Chicago police officer and three men were being treated for minor injuries after a police chase on the South Side ended with a crash late Tuesday.
The chain of events was put in motion about 11:30 p.m., when police pulled over a vehicle with three men inside near the 7700 block of South Sangamon in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said.
At some point during the stop, the driver of the vehicle sped away.
Police chased the vehicle for more than five miles, tearing southeast across the South Side, police said.
What caused the wreck remained unclear, but in the 8600 block of South Kingston, the fleeing vehicle crashed into a backyard, landing on its side, police said. A police vehicle also crashed at the same location.
A police officer and the three men in the fleeing vehicle were all taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Charges against the three were pending.
