A man who implied that he had a handgun robbed a Northwest Side bank Friday.
The man walked into Plaza Bank in the 5600 block of West Belmont Avenue about 1:40 p.m., implied to a teller that he had a handgun and demanded cash, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said.
The teller handed over a unknown amount of cash and the robber left the bank, O’Brien said.
The robber was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7, with a mustache and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a brown scarf.
No one was injured in the robbery.
This is at least the 37th bank robbery this year in the Chicago area. Last year there were 218 bank robberies in the area.
