Metra police sergeant stabbed while breaking up fight

A sergeant with the Metra police department was stabbed in the leg several times Saturday evening after he tried to break up a fight at Union Station, a spokesman for the commuter transit agency said.
Just before 7 p.m. at least two people started fighting by the McDonald’s restaurant on the upper level of the station at 500 W. Jackson Blvd., Metra spokesman Tom Miller. said. One of them stabbed the sergeant who tried to intervene three times in the leg, Miller said.
The sergeant was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.
“He seems to be doing OK,” Miller said.
The attacker was arrested at the station, Miller said. Charges against the attacker are pending further investigation by Amtrak police.
