A 16-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting Thursday morning outside a South Side alternative high school in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
The shooting happened on the street in the 4900 block of South Paulina Street at 9:04 a.m., police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The CPS Peace and Education Coalition Alternative High School, an alternative school for young men and women ages 16 to 21, is in that block. According to the school’s website, “the Peace and Education Coalition Alternative High School Program provides a non-traditional educational opportunity for out-of-school youth ... who desire to achieve a high school diploma and a new chance to fully participate in the economic and social spheres of life through guidance and support.”
The wounded, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in fair to serious condition, according to Fire Media Affairs. The boy is believed to have a street gang affiliation, a police source said.
