The Chicago Sun-Times looked at all crimes posted on the city of Chicago’s Data Portal from 2010 through 2012 that were listed as taking place on CTA platforms or property.

The data did not list the names of the stations where crimes took place, but did list map coordinates for the location of the crime.

The Sun-Times used mapping software to assign crimes that were listed as occurring on CTA platforms to the nearest station.

Crimes listed as occurring on CTA property that were within two blocks of a station were assigned to that station.

Crimes listed as occurring on CTA trains, buses and bus stops were not used for this story.
