Urbana man held without bail for West Sider’s murder

A 40-year-old Urbana man was being held without bail Saturday in a shooting death last summer on the West Side.
Quinn Holmes was arrested Thursday at his home in Urbana by detectives with the Chicago Police Department who then brought him back to face a first-degree murder charge in the Jan. 2, 2012, killing of a 21-year-old man in Garfield Park neighborhood last July 2, authorities said.
Prosecutors say Holmes was riding in the back of an SUV when he and several others in the vehicle spotted James Thompson walking down the street near his home. The driver pulled in front of the man, and Holmes got out, exchanged words with Thompson before shooting him once in the chest, prosecutors said in court.
Thompson, of the of the 4300 block of West Gladys Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died.
