A Grayslake man is going to prison for four years for attempting to commit a sexual act with a 9-year-old girl.
Eric Hopkins, 41, was sentenced for attempted predatory criminal sexual assault Tuesday. He had pleaded guilty to the charge in December. The plea deal put his sentencing range to probation or four to 15 years in prison.
He was charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, which meant he faced up to 30 years in prison.
Hopkins will have to register as a sex offender because of his conviction.
The man’s now ex-wife caught him trying to commit a sex act with the child in their bedroom on May 26, authorities said.
Hopkins was arrested June 8. The 234 days he spent in Lake County Jail will be applied as credit toward his four-year sentence.
