One man lay dead and another was taken to a hospital in serious condition following a Thursday night shooting in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said.

The shooting happened about 9:20 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Honor, said police News Affairs Officers Ron Gaines.

The men were sitting on a porch when a gunman walked up and fired shots before running away, police said. Brian Cross, 34, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at 10:03 p.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

A 35-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to Fire Media Affairs.

A third person fled the scene after the shooting but was not injured, according to authorities.

No one was in custody late Thursday as Area South detectives investigated.
