Tinley Park cellphone store robbery ends with New Lenox area crash

Three men were in custody Thursday after they allegedly robbed a cellphone store in Tinley Park and led police on a chase that ended near New Lenox, Tinley Park Police Chief Steve Neubauer said.
No one had been charged as of early Thursday evening, Neubauer said, but police were “tying up some loose ends,”
The men, one of whom had a gun, allegedly robbed a cellphone store in the 16200 block of South Harlem Avenue about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday and then fled.
“They took cellphones. Employees gave us a good description of the car. Officers saw it, went to stop it, and, of course, they took off,” Neubauer said.
Police chased them on Interstate 57, south to I-80 and west to La Grange Road, he said.
“At that point we backed off because it was just getting too dangerous for the public at large,” Neubauer said. “They eventually crashed the car in New Lenox. We sent some people out to help with the manhunt there and we took three into custody.”
None of the three was injured when they lost control of the car when it slid off U.S. 6 near New Lenox, he said.
One cellphone store employee suffered a minor injury, Neubauer said.
Police recovered several of the stolen cellphones, he said.
