Suspect arrested after robbing convenience store in South Loop

A man was arrested after allegedly robbing a convenience store in the South Loop Thursday night.
Shortly before midnight, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 1600 block of South Michigan Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The officers observed a male in the area who fit the description of the suspect, Alfaro said. As the officers approached, the suspect fled on foot but was taken into custody by police in the 1800 block of South Michigan Avenue.
Proceeds for the robbery as well as a weapon were found on the suspect, Alfaro said.
The suspect was hospitalized with injuries he sustained during the foot pursuit, Alfaro said.
Area Central detectives are investigating.
