A 14-year-old boy walked into the emergency room of a Northwest Side hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder Wednesday night after being shot in an apparent gang conflict, police said.
The boy walked into Swedish Covenant Hospital and told officers he was shot about 10:15 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Lawrence Avenue, said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer, citing preliminary information.
The boy told police he was walking down the street when an apparent gang member approached and shouted some gang slogans before shooting him, Greer said.
The boy was driven by an unidentified person to the hospital, where he was listed in “stable” condition, police said. He was later transfered to Children’s Memorial Hospital.
No one was in custody as Area North detectives investigated.
