Three passengers were injured early Tuesday, after the driver of their car collided with several parked cars while trying to outrun police on the Northwest Side.
Police in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood were on patrol just after midnight when they saw a male armed with a handgun driving a vehicle, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
The driver accelerated, attempting to outrun the officers, but lost control of the vehicle and crashed into several parked cars near West Wolfram and North Lamon, police said.
The driver ran but was arrested a short distance from the crash, police said. Three of his passengers, who were left behind in the wreckage, were taken to area hospitals, Alfaro said.
Two passengers were taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical center, according to unconfirmed dispatch reports.
A third person, who was pinned into the crashed vehicle, was freed about 1 a.m. and taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the unconfirmed dispatch reports.
