An attacker slashed the throat of a man waiting to pick up his wife at an Indiana train station, then stole the man’s car.
The man arrived at the East Chicago South Shore Line station about 5:40 p.m. Monday and went into a restroom at the station while waiting for the train, according to a Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District Transit Police release.
The assailant followed the man into the restroom and attacked him, slashing the man’s throat from behind, the release said.
The attacker stabbed the man a second time after the man had thrown his keys, wallet and cell phone to the ground and attempted to get away, police said.
The suspect chased the man out of the bathroom before he stole the victim’s silver 2005 Honda Accord and drove off north on Indianapolis Boulevard, police said. The vehicle’s license plate is H713340.
The man was taken to St. Catherine Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
No one was in custody Tuesday, police said. The suspect is described as a black male in dark clothes with a green cloth shopping bag with while lettering.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the NICTD Transit Police at (219) 398-6000.
