Man shot in Englewood neighborhood dies one day later

A 25-year-old man, severely wounded Saturday after suffering a gunshot wound to the head, has died.

Humboldt Park resident Billie R. Daniels died Sunday at 8:07 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office -- little more than 24 hours after he was mortally wounded Saturday in the Englewood neighborhood.

Police say Daniels was at a home in the 5500 block of South Emerald Avenue when a knock came at the front door about 6:50 p.m. When Daniels answered the door, an unknown gunman shot him once in the head, police said.

Paramedics took Daniels, of the 4200 block of West Division Street, to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was placed on life-support, according to authorities. He died at the hospital the following day.

Area South detectives are investigating but have made no arrests.
