Police: Man slams into senior citizen in hit and run

A 26-year-old man has been charged with drunken driving after he allegedly struck and critically injured an a senior citizen who was crossing a street in the Uptown neighborhood on Friday morning.

Michael Izeta hit the 87-year-old pedestrian as he tried to cross the street at Broadway and Lawrence shortly after 7 a.m., police said.

Izeta allegedly left the scene, but was soon apprehended by police.

The victim was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition on Saturday, according to police.

Izeta, of the 6100 block of North Damen Avenue, has been charged with felony aggravated DUI.

He was also cited for striking a pedestrian in the roadway, failure to yield, running a red light, driving without a license and driving without insurance.

Izeta is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday for a bond hearing.
