Updated: October 30, 2012 10:04AM

The driver of a stolen vehicle was in custody early Tuesday after crashing a stolen van during a short police chase in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Police on patrol near North Keystone Avenue and West Thomas Street saw a van they believed to be stolen at about 2:30 a.m. and attempted to pull the vehicle over, said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer, citing preliminary information.

After a short chase, the driver of the vehicle crashed the van in the 4200 of West Thomas Street, police said. The driver -- whose gender and age was not released -- was taken into custody.

The driver crashed the van into either or a fence or a house, Greer said. It is unclear if the driver was hurt in the collision.
