Police: Elderly man fatally shot on South Side porch

A 73-year-old man was shot dead Friday night in the South Chicago neighborhood.
William Thomas, of the 1700 block of East 68th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:35 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The man was shot in the head as he sat on a porch in the 6800 block of South East End Avenue about 7:15 p.m., police said.
Investigators do not believe the elderly man was the intended target, said police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.
Area Central detectives are investigating.
