A 27-year-old man was killed and two teenagers were injured in an apparent gang-related shooting at a park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Saturday, police said.
The shooting happened at 12:53 p.m. in the Davis Square Park playground in the 4400 block of South Paulina.
An 18-year-old man and 16-year-old girl said they were sitting with the victims on concrete steps outside the playground field house when a gunman walked up, shouted and started firing.
“There were five of us just sitting there talking, me and my boyfriend, the older guy . . . and the two other kids,” the girl said.
“The guy comes up from behind, shouts, ‘Saints killer!’ Then he takes out his gun and started shooting at us. My boyfriend threw me on the ground. I heard about seven or eight gunshots, then he ran.”
The older man was saying, “ ‘I’m shot. I’m shot,’ she said. “He was shot four times in the back.”
He died at Stroger Hospital.
A 14-year-old boy was shot in the stomach and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago Medical Centers, Police spokesman John Mirabelli said. A 15-year-old boy was shot in the elbow and taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Mirabelli said.
Both teens were listed in good condition, authorities said.
