A 30-year-old Chicago man has been charged with aggravated battery for a fight Sunday afternoon in which he and another man crashed through the window of Macy’s in the Loop, leaving the other man hospitalized.
Chad Chamberlain, of the 4100 block of North Damen Avenue, was charged Monday with felony aggravated battery and criminal damage to property, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
On Tuesday, Judge James Brown ordered Chamberlein held on a $250,000 bond and set a preliminary hearing for Sept. 24, according to Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokesman Andy Conklin.
A 25-year-old man was passing out flyers for a health club in front of Macy’s in the 100 block of South State Street just after noon Sunday when Chamberlain began shouting profanities at him, Mirabelli said.
Chamberlain pushed the man in the chest and a struggle ensued, before both men crashed through a plate glass window on the Wabash Avenue side of the store, Mirabelli said.
Witnesses identified Chamberlain to responding police officers, Mirabelli said. As officers approached, Chamberlain ran but was taken into custody.
The other man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a cut to his lower right arm, Mirabelli said. Chamberlain, who suffered cuts on his face and arms, was treated at the scene.
