A Chicago man charged in connection with a police-involved shooting Friday night that left a south suburban man dead remains behind bars Monday.

Leron Poullard, 23, of the 100 block of West 110th Place was charged Sunday with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault to a peace officer with a firearm, both felonies, according to a statement from police.

Bond was denied during a hearing Sunday, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

Poullard is one of the men at a party in the 200 block of West 110th Street where police tactical officers arrived about 9:30 p.m. Friday after receiving a call of a man with a gun, authorities said.

The officers approached three men after witnesses pointed them out, according to the statement. The men began running away and when officers pursued on foot, two of the men pointed weapons at police, the statement said.

Christopher McGowan, 22, of the 14900 block of Marshfield Avenue in Harvey, was fatally shot by police and pronounced dead at the scene at 11:49 p.m., authorities said.

The second man who allegedly pointed a gun was found in a nearby yard and arrested without incident, the statement said. The third suspect was arrested at the scene, but police said he was a witness and he was not charged.

No police officers were injured and two weapons were recovered, the statement said.

“It’s a pretty simple equation. You point a gun at an officer, he’s gonna defend himself,” Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden said.

Camden said attendees of the large block party were the ones to call 9-11 about the armed men, and pointed them out to responding officers.

Authorities couldn’t immediately say what the men were doing there or why they were armed.

Area South detectives and the Independent Police Review Authority are investigating.
