16-year-old boy shot in Uptown

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the Uptown neighborhood early Tuesday.
The boy had left an apartment building in the 4600 block of North Winthrop Avenue at about 1:20 a.m. when he heard a gunshot and fell to t=he ground, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The boy realized he had been hit in the leg, and a person in a nearby car drove him to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Mirabelli said. He was initially listed in “stable” condition.
The boy did not know anything about the shooter or where the shots came from, Mirabelli said, and no one is in custody.
Area North detectives are investigating.
