One man was killed and another critically injured in a shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway that caused a vehicle to crash into a building in the South Side Chatham neighborhood, police said.
The shooting happened about 11:40 p.m. as three men in a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee were getting on the southbound Dan Ryan Expressway using the 87th Street ramp, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Steven Tufenkjian said. The shots were apparently fired from another vehicle.
Larry Porter, 25, of the 10000 block of South Parnell Avenue, was dead at the scene, according to officials.
Porter was driving when he was shot in the head, causing him to lose control and drive off the ramp into a building on Lafayette Avenue, police said.
The front passenger was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center with a head injury, authorities said.
An autopsy Thursday determined Porter died of a gunshot wound to the head and not the crash, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The backseat passenger refused medical attention at the scene.
Police did not immediately know how old the passengers were, but said they are adults.
State police are investigating the shooting while Chicago police are investigating the crash.
