A man surrendered to Batavia police after he robbed a woman at gunpoint at an ATM on Tuesday, according to the Batavia Police Department.
A 42-year-old woman was using a drive-thru ATM at a Chase bank branch located in the 130 block of South Batavia Avenue when an armed man approached her vehicle about 2 a.m., a news release from Batavia police said.
The woman was able to drive away and no one was hurt during the robbery, the release said. She gave a physical description of the man to police, who then began searching the area, the release said.
Police were unable to locate the man, the release said, but a man allegedly walked into the lobby of the Batavia Police Department about 12:30 p.m. and told detectives he robbed the woman.
The release said the man “corroborated the events as detailed by the victim.”
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s office charged Zachary D. Schulz, 20, with a felony count of attempted armed robbery, the release said.
Schulz, of the 700 block of Houston Street, was being held at the police department and was scheduled to appear in bond court on Wednesday.
