A northwest suburban man sentenced to prison last year for possessing multiple images of child pornography faces additional time after being convicted of molesting a young girl.

William S. Muth, 46, of the 1400 block of Blackhawk Circle in South Elgin was convicted Wednesday night of six counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, each a Class X felony, and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s office.

A Kane County jury returned the guilty verdicts after about three hours of deliberation.

Between Jan. 1, 2007, and Feb. 7, 2008, Muth had sexual contact on multiple occasions with a girl he knew who was younger than 13 at the time, prosecutors said.

Circuit Judge David Akemann set Muth’s next court appearance for 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 15, when he faces a 36 to 120 years, prosecutors said.

On April 15, 2011, Muth was sentenced to three years in prison for an October 2010 conviction on 22 counts of possession of child pornography.

“The victim in this case showed great courage in coming forward and testifying publicly, in front of a jury,” State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said in a statement. “I can only imagine that doing so was extremely difficult, and she deserves immense praise and credit. We are and we always will be buoyed and humbled by the strength shown by the victims of these appalling and selfish crimes...”
