Windows smashed, jewelry stolen from Sears on Northwest Side

Thieves smashed glass counters and doors to steal jewelry from a Sears store in the Northwest Side Irving Park neighborhood early Tuesday.

Police were notified at 3:17 a.m. of a commercial alarm at the Sears store in the Six Corners Shopping District in the 4700 block of West Irving Park Road, News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Thieves shattered the glass doors of the store, as well as glass counters and cases, to steal watches, diamond rings and other jewelry, Mirabelli said.

Police estimated thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was stolen, but a Sears sales associate said the value of items taken in the robbery was not known as of late Tuesday morning.

No one is in custody.

Police are reviewing video surveillance and encourage anyone with information to call Area North detectives at (312) 744-8263.
