A 67-year-old man who was staying with his nephew in St. Charles has been charged with the sexual assault of the nephew’s girlfriend.
Gary R. Kluber had been temporarily staying with his nephew at a home in the 100 block of South 10th Avenue in St. Charles, a release from police said.
Kluber allegedly sexually assaulted the 35-year-old victim when she was visiting the home and alone with Kluber in the basement.
Kluber was taken into custody without incident on Thursday at approximately 2:30 p.m. and charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual abuse, police said.
At a hearing Friday morning, bond was set at $250,000, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s office. Kluber is next scheduled to appear in court on June 13, in front of Kane County Judge Tim Sheldon.
Police say that Kluber’s past criminal history includes previous sex crimes such as criminal sexual abuse in 1987 and an aggravated criminal sexual abuse/weapon in 1998. He was required to register as a sex offender as a result of the guilty convictions for the sex crimes, but is no longer required. He was recently charged with a child sex offender/school zone presence in 2010.
