An unarmed man robbed a bank in the Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
A man in his 40s walked into the North Community Bank branch in the 2700 block of West Belmont Avenue and announced the robbery to a teller, though he did not show a weapon, according to the FBI.
He is described as a 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-6-inch tall Hispanic man with long hair and a tattoo of a cross on his left arm, the FBI said. He had his head covered during the robbery.
The robbery happened about 1:20 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. The man was seen fleeing westbound in a dark-colored or possibly black sedan on Henderson Street, which is a block north of Belmont.
He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, Alfaro said.
