A former Downers Grove police officer accused of plotting to rob suspected drug dealers was ordered to serve 60 days on work release at the DuPage County Jail and placed on probation for two years after pleading guilty to official misconduct.
Randy J. Caudill, 36, was charged by DuPage County authorities in 2010 with improperly running license plate numbers using police computers to help identify cars driven by drug dealers so they then could be robbed.
Caudill, an eight-year police veteran, had faced up to five years in prison.
As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Caudill was sentenced Monday to spend 60 nights in the jail, though he will be released during the day so he can work.
He already had been dismissed from the west suburban police department.
