Lake Shore Drive hit-and-run leaves woman in serious condition

A hit-and-run accident on South Lake Shore Drive left one person in serious condition Wednesday morning.
About 8 a.m., police were notified that a woman was laying on the ground after she was struck by a maroon Saturn in the 500 block of South Lake Shore Drive, said police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli, citing preliminary information.
Police said nearby federal agents instantly followed the driver and stopped him in the 200 block of East Jackson Boulevard. Police were questioning the driver, but charges were pending as of Wednesday morning, police said.
The female, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, Mirabelli said.
Further details were not immediately available.
The police department’s Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
