A Wicker Park man was ticketed for animal cruelty early Tuesday when police officers found a trail of blood leading to his apartment.
Officers responded to a call at 1:56 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Rockwell and were led to the back yard of the apartment building by the dog’s owner, Stanton Howard, 42, police said.
The officers saw a trail of blood on the back steps. Howard told them he had dragged the dog because he was “teaching him how to walk,” according to the police, who said the dog had scratches and open wounds on his stomach, paws and back. The dog and another pit bull were taken by city animal control officers.
