A South Side funeral home whose sales practices were under federal investigation was hit with a city ordinance violation Monday for “failure to provide adequate shelter, protection, care and disposition of deceased human remains,” police said.
At about 4 a.m., Chicago Police officers found a rear door open and the power off at Carter Funeral Chapels, 2500 E. 75th. A police spokesman said several bodies were in the building in “various states of preparation.”
Two employees and a third man were inside the chapel. One of the men was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant, police said.
In July, the Federal Trade Commission sued Carter Funeral Chapels for allegedly violating a rule that requires funeral homes to provide customers with a general price list for services and a list of casket prices.
