Downers Grove woman charged with shooting boyfriend during argument

A Downers Grove woman is charged with shooting her boyfriend with a shotgun during an argument Saturday afternoon in their west suburban home.

Vickie Podruzek, 42, allegedly shot her boyfriend at their home in the 6300 block of Carpenter Street during some sort of domestic dispute, Downers Grove Police Lt. Mike Willison said.

Podruzek was charged with felony counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated domestic battery, Willison said.

Officers first responded to the residence about 12:19 p.m. Saturday and found the man shot in the neck, police said. He was conscious and able to speak, and taken to an area hospital in an unspecified condition.

Willison couldn’t immediately say what the argument was about, but said authorities had no prior contact with the couple.

It wasn’t clear who owned the weapon, but neither person involved was cited for a FOID violation, Willison said.

Podruzek was transferred to the DuPage County Jail and is awaiting a bond hearing.
