Woman shot at West Town Subway restaurant dies

An employee of a Subway restaurant in the West Town neighborhood who was shot during a robbery Thursday night has died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The 54-year-old woman was working in a Subway restaurant in the 1100 block of North Western Avenue when an armed male came in and announced a robbery about 8:50 p.m., police said. She tried to run out the back when the gunman shot her in the neck. He then ordered another employee to open the register and took some cash.
The woman was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said. A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said Friday morning the office has been notified of her death but he could not release any additional information, pending notification of her family.
No one is in custody Friday morning and Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
