Two killed in 95th Street hit-and-run still unidentified

Updated: March 11, 2012 8:45AM

A man and a woman killed on the South Side by a hit-and-run driver in the early hours of Thursday had yet to be identified Thursday evening.

The two were crossing 95th Street near Cottage Grove Avenue around 2:50 a.m. when they were struck by a Nissan passenger car that did not stop at the scene, police said.

The man, described as being in his 50s and 60s, and the woman, in her 40s or 50s, were dead on the scene — a featureless stretch of road near Metra tracks and a self-storage business, police said.

The vehicle that struck them was stopped nearby at 94th Street and Champlain Avenue, and the driver was arrested. He is being treated at an area hospital, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said the bodies were fingerprinted Thursday afternoon in an attempt to identify them.
