A would-be rapist was caught after the victim’s boyfriend helped track him down on the West Side, prosecutors say.

Lamarr Smith, 30, of the 400 block of South Blvd., Evanston, allegedly unbuckled a woman’s pants at gunpoint in the 4200 block of West Jackson Friday night.

Scared off by a passing car, he stole the woman’s phone and cash before fleeing, it’s alleged. But the victim quickly found her boyfriend, and he and his buddies soon found the man just a block away near I-290 and called police, prosecutor William Hall said Sunday.

Smith, who’s charged with robbery, attempted criminal sexual assault and unlawful use of a weapon, was ordered held on bail of $750,000.
