Fake cop steals DVDs, cops say

A robber posed as an undercover cop to steal from a DVD bootlegger, authorities say.

Douglas Martin, 55, showed a badge and a gun to the bootlegger inside a donut shop in the 11200 block of South Michigan on Wednesday, prosecutors say.

He told the bootlegger he was a cop, made him come outside to a waiting van and took a bagful of DVDs, as well as $70 cash, it’s alleged. Martin is actually a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang, according to a police report.

Charged with kidnapping, robbery and impersonating a peace officer, Martin was ordered held on bail of $850,000 Sunday.
