SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE January 26, 2012 1:48PM
Authorities in Kane County are looking into two incidents where bullets were found in northwest suburban schools this week.
On Wednesday at about 9:40 a.m., a student at Burlington Middle School at 44W303 Plato Rd. in Burlington found a bullet in a hallway of the school, a release from the Kane County Sheriff’s office said.
A teacher notified school officials and the sheriff’s School Resource Officer, and the school was placed on soft lockdown for about three hours while school officials and sheriff’s deputies with K-9 teams searched the school. No other bulllets or weapons were found and school was dismissed on time. Classes resumed as normal on Thursday and the incident is still under investigation.
Sheriff’s deputies are also in contact with Elgin police, who are investigating a bullet that was found at the Country Trails Elementary School on Tuesday, the release said. Country Trails is in the boundaries of the Burlington School District but within the city limits of Elgin. The sheriff’s office did not have additional details on this incident.
No injuries were reported from either incident.
