Some SpyBar patrons may have gotten all wet after a club hopper punched a sprinkler inside the River North establishment early Friday.

But the snafu far from dampened the nightclub’s 15th anniversary celebration.

SpyBar was set to open at 10 p.m. Friday — less than a full day after Samuel Clucas allegedly hit a sprinkler attached to a low-level ceiling at the hot spot in the 600 block of North Franklin Street.

Contrary to earlier reports, the club sustained minimal damage, according to SpyBar marketing director Miguel DeLeon.

Clucas, 27, of Burbank, has been spotted at the club before but he is not a regular, DeLeon said.

DeLeon said Clucas “unprovoked, decided to take a swipe” at the sprinkler, which is about 6 feet from the ground.

“It was basically somebody doing something stupid,” he said.

DeLeon said he heard Clucas told officers he accidentally hit the sprinkler with his head.

But that’s not the case, said DeLeon, adding that surveillance cameras at SpyBar captured Clucas punching the sprinkler.

Clucas is expected to appear in bond court Saturday to face a felony criminal damage to property charge.
