Ald. Joe Moreno (1st) reached into his own pocket to rent four all-terrain vehicles to clear the walks of local residents who can’t do it themselves.
The ATV’s have “scoops on the front and salt shakers on the back,’’ Moreno said. Their first priority will be homes belonging to senior citizens and people with disabilities. Once those are done, they’ll move on to assist other residents who need help shoveling the walks leading to their front doors and the sidewalks in front of their homes.
Moreno said he put down $1,000 to cover the initial cost. Each ATV will cost him another $58-an-hour.
Moreno faces two challengers in the upcoming election, but he claimed that wasn’t his motivation.
“I don’t care if there’s an election or not. I don’t care what year it is. We’ve got to do this — especially for our seniors,’’ Moreno said.
