Cited for contempt, Weis hands over cop list
Reversing his earlier opposition, Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis said today he has released a list of names of police officers with at least five complaints lodged against them since 2000.
In explaining the turnaround, Weis said that he wanted to re-emphasize to U.S. District Court Judge Robert Gettleman his concerns that officers could be wrongly labeled as repeat offenders.
Weis emphaized that he was “absolutely not” defying the court, but that he really wanted the judge to consider his concerns about the release of the list.
On Wednesday Gettleman found Weis in contempt of court and set a Monday deadline for him to release the names of officers who have at least five citizen complaints filed against them since 2000.
