The city will begin tearing down vacant buildings “that serve as hubs of gang activity” Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel said earlier this week he planned to target vacant buildings for demolition as part of a push to quell gang violence.
The city will begin work on 12 buildings Thursday, including one in the 7100 block of S. Rhodes and another in the 6700 block of South Laflin.
Officials referred to them as “hubs of violence and hives for gang activity.”
