A Skokie police officer driving his squad car Wednesday morning struck a pedestrian while pursuing a speeding vehicle near the 3500 block of Church Street.
The victim was hospitalized with broken bones but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.
Police said the 25-year officer was checking speeds using radar in a school zone when an SUV sped by him in the opposite direction.
The officer made a U-turn to pursue the SUV but the wet pavement caused him to slide and hit parked vehicles before traveling onto the sidewalk, police said.
A 33-year-old Chicago man walking alone on the sidewalk was struck by the officer’s car, police said. He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.
Police are investigating.
