The burglar didn’t leave his telephone number, but he mght as well have.

A Berwyn man has been arrested on charges he stole a laptop computer from a west suburban home last month after Riverside police said he left them a pretty good lead — a photo of his face taken by the computer .

“Immediately after the photo was made public, we had several leads in the case,” said Riverside Police Chief Tom Weitzel. “We had him identified 15 minutes after his photo was made public.”

Dominick Harvey, 43 was charged with two separate counts of residential burglary, according to a release from Riverside police.

Between Aug. 19 and Aug. 22, a burglar entered two homes in Riverside by force and stole cash, jewelry and computer equipment, police said.

One of the items taken, an Apple Macbook Pro laptop, was recovered by police, who found the suspect’s photo saved on it. Leads from residents and business owners led to Harvey’s arrest.

Despite the alleged slip up, Harvey is no criminal novice. He has a criminal history of burglary and is currently on parole for residential burglary.

He told investigators he saw his photo in the news and was aware police were hunting for him, police said.
