Maggie Daley admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital

Maggie Daley has been admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after suffering discomfort in her right leg.

Daley, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, was admitted Saturday morning, according to her doctor.

“She will be at NMH for a few days,” Dr. Steven T. Rosen said. “For the moment the family has asked for some privacy.”

Her right leg was fitted with a titanium rod last year to relieve persistent pain caused by a malignant bone tumor that had been treated with radiation.

Chicago’s first lady was hospitalized in Washington, D.C., last October for four days after suffering cancer-related pain in her right leg and lower back.

Mayor Daley’s press secretary, Jacqueline Heard, said Saturday that doctors had conducted some tests and were awaiting the results.

Maggie Daley had attended a fund-raiser at the Art Institute of Chicago on Friday night honoring her and the mayor for their commitment to the arts in Chicago.

The mayor canceled several of his events on Saturday.
