The big, !?#&in’ secret has been revealed: The man behind the profane @MayorEmanuel Twitter feed is Dan Sinker, an assistant journalism professor at Columbia College.
“Thanks to the many thousands of you that made this so much f------ fun,” Sinker wrote in a post outing himself Monday.
The bearded professor whose old “Punk Planet” zine chronicled punk rock from 1994 to 2007 gathered a following of 25,000, compared to 7,000 for Emanuel’s real Twitter account.
The constant tweets caricatured Emanuel’s well-known penchant for the vulgar when venting the hair-trigger temper the real Emanuel masterfully concealed on the campaign trail: “Oh great, we’ve reached the ‘Everyone s--- on Rahm’ part of the debate. It’s cool. I’ll go get my m----------- raincoat.”
On election night, as Emanuel’s victory became obvious, Sinker tweeted: “If you have a giant f------ pile of money and a bunch of dumb f---s running against you, DREAMS DO COME TRUE” and “F--- the f------ champagne slide. I’m just going to jump out of this f------ window and bodysurf to the f------ stage.”
During the campaign, Emanuel told Roe Conn and Richard Roeper on their WLS radio show he would donate $5,000 to a charity the @MayorEmanuel author chose if he revealed himself.
Emanuel confirmed Monday he would make good on the promise.
